Elamys Group: Technology Partner for a Next-Generation Tourism Platform
Elamys Group is a next-generation tourism group built on platform technology. Tietotalo is its primary Finnish technology partner, delivering concept design, UI, integrations, and multi-site architecture.
Dozens of integrations, over 50 SaaS services, seven specialist companies, and one multi-site hub holding it all together. Tietotalo is the primary Finnish technology partner making it work.
Elamys Group is a next-generation tourism group and a pioneer in the experience economy. The group serves both tour operator and consumer customers across a broad range of tourism segments, from sports and activity travel to business travel and event management. In addition to its own operations, Elamys Group productises its technology platforms and makes them available to other tourism operators.
The group comprises seven tourism specialist companies, operates from four regional offices, and generates revenue of 25 million euros. Among its key clients are the Finnish Olympic Committee and the Football Association of Finland.
Tietotalo is Elamys Group's most significant Finnish technology supplier and acts as its primary strategic technology partner.
A unique business model built on platform economics
Elamys Group's technology platforms bring a vast range of travel services together in one place for the customer. A traveller can plan an entire trip on a single site, covering flights, accommodation, restaurants, transport, and activities. The same scalable platform architecture supports both large regional tourism websites and highly specific event or experience sites built around a single VIP occasion.
The platform strategy rests on a multi-site architecture known as the Elamys Hub. Individual sites are built with distinct branding and strong grounding in the customer understanding of each specific segment, while back-end systems are managed through one shared hub. This enables top-level agreements with suppliers and clients across the whole group, data-driven marketing and automation, cross-selling between sites, and shared operational infrastructure, while making maintenance of individual sites significantly simpler.
As Jari Auranen, Chief Technology Officer of Elamys Group, describes it: when the technology works and real-time availability and pricing data is in place, purchasing on the sites is easy and smooth. But excellent user experience also needs atmosphere and a sense of experience. Each individual site has to reflect the character of its region and deliver added value, including non-commercial attractions and operators, not just bookable inventory.
The challenge: orchestrating a multi-vendor platform ecosystem
When an entire business model rests on technology platforms, the demands on those platforms are high. Elamys Group's solutions combine a very large number of platforms, service providers, consolidators, and data sources. Tens of core integrations and inventory and distribution partners are active at any one time, including major players such as Amadeus, Bokun, Nezasa, Expedia, and Ticketmaster. The platform ecosystem also draws on more than 50 SaaS services.
Orchestrating service development across this complexity, keeping individual sites fast, on-brand, and conversion-ready while managing API constraints from consolidators and a web of functional, technical, and regulatory requirements, is not a task for a generalist agency. It requires a partner with deep multi-vendor integration experience, command of multiple front-end technologies, and fluency in cloud environments, SaaS platforms, and marketing automation.
What Tietotalo delivers
- Concept and user interface design: demanding concept work and interface design across Elamys Group's platform products, accounting throughout for the constraints of consolidator API solutions alongside the functional, technical, and legal requirements of each deployment.
- Multi-site architecture and the Elamys Hub: design and implementation of the shared multi-site back-end that lets individual branded sites share supplier agreements, operational infrastructure, and data-driven marketing while each maintaining its own identity and segment focus.
- Integration development: integration work connecting Elamys Group's platforms to major inventory and distribution partners including Amadeus, Bokun, Nezasa, Expedia, and Ticketmaster, alongside a broad range of SaaS services.
- Front-end development across multiple technologies: implementation across the range of front-end technologies used in the Elamys platform ecosystem, including WordPress-based builds for regional and campaign sites.
- Regional tourism sites and event sites: end-to-end delivery of sites built on Elamys Group technology, including Visit Espoo, Visit Kotka-Hamina, Lakeland Booking (covering the Jyvaskyla, Lahti, and Keitele regions), Finnish Archipelago Routes, and a wide range of event and experience travel sites.
Live implementations built on Elamys Group technology
The list of live sites built using Elamys Group's technology platforms, with Tietotalo as the delivery partner, includes named regional and destination sites as well as event and experience travel pages:
- Visit Espoo
- Visit Kotka-Hamina
- Lakeland Booking, covering the Jyvaskyla, Lahti, and Keitele regions
- Finnish Archipelago Routes, covering the archipelago landscapes of Southwest Finland
- Numerous event and experience travel sites
Travellers using these sites can book every aspect of a trip in one place: flights, accommodation, tickets, and destination activities, with pricing based on the group's own contracted rates. The platform also supports multi-dimensional route services, where a traveller can plan a journey and book activities at each stop along the way.
In the client's own words
Jari Auranen, CTO of Elamys Group, describes the demand for implementations built on the group's platforms as growing continuously. The platforms make it possible to deliver regional sites, corporate sites, and campaign sites that are fully on-brand and built on technology refined through long development work, with a full range of synergy benefits. Purchasing services on those sites covers flights, accommodation, chosen tickets, and other destination activities, naturally at contracted prices, and complex route services can be built on top of that foundation.
Auranen also notes that while no single solution solves every challenge in a multi-vendor environment, the platforms Elamys Group has built can tackle the majority of those challenges, and that tourism is digitalising at an enormous pace with every operator looking for a comprehensive answer.
Why it matters
Elamys Group represents a different model of tourism technology: not a single operator building one website, but a platform group that productises its technology and makes it available across a network of regional destinations, event sites, and experience travel brands. For Tietotalo, this partnership means sustained, technically demanding delivery work across multi-vendor integration, complex front-end requirements, and platform architecture that has to perform across dozens of live sites simultaneously. For Elamys Group's clients, sites built on this foundation give them access to long-refined platform technology and a full range of synergy benefits without needing to build or maintain that infrastructure themselves.
